Aromatics, Bulk Chemicals & Intermediates, Crop Protection, Colors, Pharmaceuticals & Intermediates and Polymers with Floras Unit as a new initiative. Each division is an independent business entity with its unique objectives and growth strategy.
Prior to Independence in 1947, progress of industrial development in India was slack. Independent India was encouraging self reliant industrial development; during that phase, the initiative of commissioning chemical manufacturing was undertaken.
The first generation industrialist and philanthropist Kasturbhai Lalbhai embarked on his long term vision and dream of establishing “one of the largest chemical complexes in the world.”
The tale of the Atul Complex started in 1945, with the initiative of establishing facilities to manufacture dyes and other chemicals on a large scale in India. Ideating with the then CEO of American Cyanamid Corp, Kasturbhai firmed the plan of backward integration with manufacture of dyestuffs for his textile unit.
The blueprint and creation of the huge Atul complex rested on the strong shoulders of Balubhai Mazumdar, a graduate from the London School of Economics and Kasturbhai’s son, Siddharth Lalbhai, a chemical engineer.
Siddharth Lalbhai dedicated his entire life to the development of Atul, a unique story not only of a business enterprise, but also of human vision and endeavour for the progress of rural India.
Siddharth Lalbhai accorded equal value to creation of wealth and service to society. The principles, he upheld, of ethics in business and trusteeship in governance, the personal qualities, he lived by, of uncompromising integrity, simplicity and determined low profile, the single-minded devotion he gave to the tasks on hand and the sustained commitment he had of taking the right steps, in the right direction, with the right motives will continue to remain a guiding force.
We were established in 1947 with manufacturing of Sulphur Black and Acid / Direct Dyes. Over the years the vision and global benchmarking led to collaborations with several companies, namely;
- American Cyanamid Corp
- Imperial Chemical Industries plc
- Ciba-Geigy Ltd
which led to the formation of following joint ventures.
- Cyanamid India Ltd
- Atic Industries Ltd
- Cibatul Ltd
Time helped the understanding and handling of various kinds of chemistry. Systemizing these skills, manufacturing units were added to produce a wide range of chemicals comprising of agrochemicals, bulk drugs, commodity chemicals, dyes, specialty chemicals and their intermediates. With healthy nourishment, the once backward area and barren land transformed into a flourishing green industrial estate spread over 1300 acres of afforested land.
